Our Baby Making Process Pt. 3

PhotoCred: Love Is Me Photography

Another week – another appointment! The next step in our baby making process is to go over all my results and setting up the insemination plan! Missy and I really want to try the IUI process first so that’s what we were hoping to hear at this appointment.

Not only is the cost of IUI less expensive than IVF the process is a little less intense. With IVF you have to remove the eggs and manually combine the egg and sperm in a lab dish. Then the embryo is transferred into the uterus! For me (doing the IUI process) they just place the sperm inside of my uterus to facilitate fertilization.

When we sat down with our doctor she only had one concern… my endometriosis! Endo is basically tissue that grows outside of your uterus and can also involve your ovaries and Fallopian tubes. The reason why this is an issue is because most women who have endometriosis have an issue with getting pregnant. The doctor doesn’t think it’ll be an issue for me!

The other thing is that my ovarian reserve number was really low. The ovarian reserve basically checks your ovary capacity to provide egg cells. My numbers were really low for my age. I am producing as if I was 35 years old.

BUT with all of this info… She still thinks that we can go with IUI!

We were super excited to hear the IUI news! If this procedure doesn’t work… we might have to have surgery and then TRY AGAIN after the surgery!

The next step before the insemination is to see a therapist. This meeting with a therapist isn’t really to determine if whether or not we will be good parents… it’s more about the questions we might face in the future. It is to educate us on how we may feel if our child wishes to find out about their donor when they turn 18. At first I was like WTF why do we need counseling? But I’m starting to realize that this meeting will be an essential part of this journey.  So that’s next! We will let you know how it goes!

If you have ANY questions for the wife and I… PLEASE send them our way! We will be doing a Q&A about this whole journey. And don’t forget to subscribe to our channel and site for more updates!

My partner and I will be starting this same process next year just before summer, I was wondering how you went about finding a donor? We’re trying to get a head start so were as prepared as possible!

Congratulations on starting this whole process! We can’t wait to be where you are.

Hope to hear from you soon! 🙂

Aww yay! I am so excited for you both! The journey is amazing… with some ups and downs! BUT as long as you have each other… you’ll be fine. We looked at multiple sperm banks online to fine the donor we wanted. You can fill out specifics if you have any and they will pop up with their matches. It took us a while to decide. I wish you nothing but the best! GOOD LUCK

Hi Rae! My husband and I are going through a similar process as you with the Orlando Center for reproductive medicine and I just finished all my testing too! I am waiting for my results…nervously! I also have endometriosis stage two and had survey to have it removed about 5 years ago now but I’m glad I did, mostly because the pain was so bad.
I was also wondering if you had tried a product called Premama Fertility (you can buy it on amazon or target), I’ve been taking it, I don’t know if it’s making a huge difference or not just yet but the people on the GLOW app rave about it helping with egg quality since you mentioned that you were producing at a lower rate. Not sure if that helps much or not but I thought I would put it out there. Good luck with the rest of the testing/baby process. I wish you both all the luck in the world! Katie 🙂 p.s Happy New Year

Hey! I wish you nothing but the best and sending positive vibes your way! Endo does suck but it won’t stop us right 😉 I have never tried that product that you mentioned. Right now the plan is that they’re going to give me a trigger shot before the insemination and they say that helps with the egg production!!! Good luck with everything!!!

I started my Fertility treatment I. 2016, it is very overwhelming, but so worth it! My husband and I did IVF and had two embryos transferred in July which both took! I am now 26 weeks pregnant with boy/girl twins! IVF is definitely a lot to put your body through, physically and emotionally as well as very expensive, since most insurance companies do not cover infertility, but we were blessed with a pregnancy on the first round and still have 2 embryos left should we want more kids in the future. I wish you the best of luck in your journey!

So exciting watching your process so please forgive me if I sound ignorant or intrusive. How do same sex couples decide who will be the biological parent?

    1. sondrarae says:

Hey! There is no ignorant question really when it comes to this topic… that’s why we are recording our journey! We want to inform people and answer questions 🙂 We both have always wanted to be parents but I just really want to know what it’s like to be pregnant. Also Missy thinks she is too old (she’s only 33 lol) But that’s how we came up with me getting pregnant. It’s different for each couple. <3
